Types of Documentaries
  • Expository/Fully Narrated
  • Mixed
  • Self Reflective
  • Fly On The Wall
  • Docu-drama
  • Docu-soap
Narrative Structure
  • Open
  • Closed
  • Single Strand
  • Non Linear
  • Linear
  • Circular
Camera Work
  • Framing - Rule Of Thirds & Eyeline
  • Hand Held - More Authentic & Real footage
  • Movement - track, pan, crab, tilt etc.
Mise En Scene
  • Lighting - Hi Key, Low Key, Natural & Chiaroscuro (One side of face darkened)
  • Location - Whats Around Them
  • Code Of Attire - suit mood & theme that the producer is trying to put across to their audience
  • Eyeline of interview - Looking away from the camera off screen
Sound
  • Voice of God - heard throughout Documentary & makes sense of the footage being shown on screen
  • Non Digetic - added in the editing of the documentary
  • Dubbing
  • Incidental Music - added to try and create a certain mood during a sequence
  • Digetic - what the people on screen can also hear
  • Translation - Translation of what a foreigner may be saying
